Reflections (by Sonya Clemens, PCF intern, psychology senior at College of St. Catherine's)

It is the perfect time to reflect on what has brought us to where we are now and what lies on the road ahead, to make peace with ourselves and to remember that "regrets are just lessons we haven't learned yet." Let's embrace all of the mistakes we have made and approach the New Year as a fresh start, an opportunity to do what we might have been afraid to do in the past, and a time to step boldly into our own futures.

Many times I've made mistakes and learned first-hand the value of a fresh start. A clean slate is something that is never given to you, it is a choice that must be made, a conscious decision to let go and to just jump right in to life. In the coming year, remember the importance of taking chances to change your circumstances!

Use the Mini-Reflection Exercise to notice what you need to ride your life with confidence.

Mini-Reflection Exercise

Take a moment to write about a regret from the past year.

Examine this regret and create a gentle statement that illuminates how you can learn from it.

Write an affirming sentence about how you will change that regret into a positive action.

Imagine yourself creating a fresh slate for the coming year, erasing the regret and replacing it with the affirmation you've written. Pull this image to mind whenever you are placing more energy into the regret than the opportunity to move forward.
