Reflections (by Mia Bolte, M.A.)

Be nice. You've heard it or said it countless times. Usually we think the point is to be nice to others. But what about this idea: be nice to yourself. I am not talking about a spa day or a trip to Paris. I mean real, true kindness to ourselves.

Pema Chodron, one of my favorite Buddhist teachers says, "It's not your thoughts that are a problem, it's that you believe them." We could awaken to all the ways we beat up ourselves and revise our thinking, or at least stop believing the negative and self limiting ideas that go through our mind.

You know what they are. The "I shoulds" and "you're too this" and "not enough that."

Just try it, be nice to yourself, if even for a day. See how it goes. You just might like it.

Practice being kind to yourself with the Mini-Reflection Exercise.. Get even more practice at Mia's Addressing the Inner Critic session at the NOW conference (details directly below).

Try this:

For a day, study yourself. Notice the negative thoughts that you have about yourself.

Next step: Imagine what you'd be like if you revised each thought into something more positive.
