Reflections (by Teresa Thomas-Carroll)

Summer is painted as the season all about kicking back and relaxing. But there’s still so much to do. Maybe even more with packing for weekend getaways, a full schedule of outings, BBQs and navigating a schedule different than what we’re used to having. Is there anything we can do to make all this “recreation” really feel fun and easy?

Here are a few tips that I’ve found useful:

-Pre-pack your “getting away” bags with some of the essentials. Have a beach bag ready with sunscreen, a beach towel and packaged snacks. Keep your travel bag stocked with toiletries and a list of the other things you’d usually pack. A picnic basket ready to go with plates, utensils and a tablecloth makes it easy to stop by the deli to pick up lunch.

-Grill as much as possible and eat outside. If you spill the limeade, it’s so much easier to hose it down than mopping the whole floor. Crumbs on the ground? Leave them for the ants.

-Combine summer fun with seeing friends at the same time. If you’ve wanted to go to the waterpark and also to catch up with a long lost friend, meet up there for watery fun. This has the added bonus that you won’t feel like you have to deep clean your house!

For more tips including one that you might find a little “weird” (but I bet you’ll secretly do), check out our blog. While you’re there, please post your own tips for making summer feel more like a breeze. And to multi-task saving time while you combine business with doing something nice for yourself, participate in the Let’s Dish! Business networking listed below. Happy summer!

Use the Mini-Reflection Exercise  to find ways you can make your summer easier and more fulfilling.

Mini-Reflection Exercise

Brainstorm the ways you already are finding to make summer fun and relaxing.

Imagine is there anything you could be doing in an easier way? Even if just for the summer?

Make it happen by trying out your time and effort saving ideas. Or find something that really doesn’t have to be done and let it go (e.g. If camping feels like something you have to do each summer but you don’t really enjoy it as much as you’d like to, consider letting it go this summer.)

Please share your tips with others by commenting to the Summer Tips blog.
