Reflections (by Teresa Thomas-Carroll, director)

Chances are you’ve set goals for yourself in the new year and maybe even a detailed plan for reaching those goals. In addition to having a concrete plan with specific and measurable steps, arranging help to meet your goals is another key to succeeding.

Becca, one of our facilitators goes for a daily morning walk with her neighbor. They get exercise and develop their friendship at the same time. Sure, they might get out for a walk each day without each other. But knowing that they are in it together, keeps them from hitting their snooze buttons. They start off their mornings positively, knowing they have met a daily goal.

Many of us feel like we can do everything "on our own" and with many things we can. But receiving (and giving) support makes our journey toward our goal more likely to be successful and enjoyable, too!

Try the reflective exercise later in this newsletter to determine how support may help your goals.

Mini-Reflection Exercise

Brainstorm
Quickly list out some of your goals for 2005:

Imagine
Think about whether any of these goals could be more successful—or fun!—with help.

Setting a goal
Choose at least one goal to request help in achieving.

Taking Action
Request help from a friend (especially one with similar goals) and offer help in return. Or hire someone suited to help you meet your goal—perhaps through a PCF workshop or service!

Fun and specific ways you can help PCF meet its goals for the coming year:
Come to our New Year’s celebration and bring friends, contribute to our scholarship fund, help us distribute or post newsletters/flyers/catalogues, recommend us to your workplace for professional development, team-building or staff appreciation events/retreats… Thanks!
