Reflections (by Janet Roper, facilitator)

I AM…These are among the most powerful words to use when you’re creating. After all, we are creating all the time; we create who we are by our belief or lack of belief in ourselves. We create images of who we are by our conduct and our very way of being every nanosecond of our lives. YOU are a live creation that YOU are forever creating and recreating!

However you decide to create yourself shows through in everything you do, every relationship you have, through your very essence. When you use the words, “I am…” pay attention to what follows and be kind to yourself. Be mindful of how you create and recreate yourself during the day, so you are truly the creation you want to be.

The mini-reflection exercise later in this newsletter will help you think through how you want the creation of yourself to be experienced in the world.

Mini-Reflection Exercise

Brainstorm
List out some ways speak about the creation of yourself. I AM…

Imagine
Think about what you have listed and ask yourself if that’s what you truly want to create.

Setting a goal
If you listed ways you want to be in the world, congratulations and keep it up! If you have descriptions that are negative, please reframe it, either choosing an opposite or affirming word (e.g. changing “I am guilty” to “I AM responsible” or “I am spacey” to “I AM a dreamer”). Notice the difference that this shift makes in you, your actions and other’s perceptions of you.

Taking Action
Each time you find yourself thinking something like “I am so dumb”, stop yourself and mindfully change it “I am so intelligent (creative, smart)” or whatever you want to create yourself to be.
